"Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food" - Hypocrites

I've been one of those "granola, tree loving" (ok, I do hug & sniff) nuts for over 20 years. My daughter grew up on brown rice/whole grains, soy/tofu, beans, nuts, fruits, and a huge variety of veggies. It's not like we never had meat, but "M" was a natural "vegetarian" (she just didn't like it), it was never forced. Now an adult, she still eschews meat, for the most part. As a child, I packed meat in my cheek and woke up in the morning with it still there! I was "forced" to eat it.

I don't deny or disparage food I'm being served as a guest in someone's home. I let them know, if asked, but don't demand "special food". Allergic reactions may be valid (and some are genuinely hereditary - not most), but that's a whole other story...

I preferred being outside; running with friends, riding my horse, catching horny toads and snakes. We had well-balanced meals (mom always told me "you're going to die-yet", whenever I "dieted" in my teens). We rarely ate out, or had chips, pop, candy, etc in the home... Now, I hike/backpack, showshoe, play tennis, swim, bike, walk, and am currently building a sustainable structure. I'm not the "perfect" size, mainly because my "jobs" keep me in a chair, and my metabolism has slowed to a crawl! But, I am HEALTHY... and I still backpack, just not as much! A friend is going with me this summer to finish a 500 mile backpack (52 miles left)l... The Colorado Trail.
My 1st choice for food, no matter what it is, has always been: Quality First! Rarely is it a price decision. Although I'm very far from being wealthy, quality food is affordable. Because I've always chosen food that costs more (organic, natural, fresh, whole foods), I don't miss the few pennies, or even dollars. It's a natural, and the most important, part of my budget, and my health! After decades of this I know what companies to trust, what to buy and how to fix it. And Vitamin Cottage has been the most stringent store in which to buy these foods, herbs and alternative remedies.

I consider what I put into my body one of the most important things I can do for health. I've gone 6 years without a cold. It's not that I never get sick, but I rarely do. Last time I had "the flu" was over 15 years ago. The only thing I took was cough syrup and aspirin for the headache. The cough syrup? Hycomine (sp?), now that's a cough syrup! Never had one work as well since - the "drug nazi's" made it unavailable. A few stupid people must have O.D.'d on it! Why are we treated like children, unable to choose for ourselves what works best, or to allow our doctor to decide? To me these "accidents" just cleans up the gene-pool! Isn't that "god's way"? I'm not sorry if I offend, but life is just a path to death and some just get there quicker than others... No one will make it out of this alive. In fact one might say that each second is a death, and birth, that we fail to recognize.

But I digress, of course...
Anyway Mom made chicken soup, the old fashioned way (Jewish meds). That was enough. Old wives tales... ? Maybe. But, who cares... if it works?!

I dumped Allopathic (traditional) "doctors", when they began dispensing legal drugs religiously... that didn't work. The first thing we must understand is that "they" (pharmaceutical/insurance industry) are not in business to cure you. Their bottom line is MONEY! To cure you is to lose money. A healthy person is a useless mass of flesh, and if you advocate natural/alternatives, then you are a THREAT.

I found a naturopath who's been my "physician" for over 20 yrs, and I rarely see her. I learned about natural, non-invasive, herbal and homeopathic remedies. I pay out of pocket. One can find Naturopaths who are also MD's... which can be very helpful (for insurance), but beware... their primary allegiance may be Allopathic through force or for the dough! This is what I found from the one I saw.

I took to Macrobiotics. Basically, you eat what naturally grows in your region, or temperate zone. This can be difficult for many who are addicted to all the processed "phood" available at one's fingertips (yet is shipped thousands of miles, using vast amounts of energy to grow, process, ship, and store it), that one wouldn't even know existed if it wasn't trucked or flown in. Most of our food now travels thousands of miles. We're losing natural farms & ranches... real food, to centrallized "phood" conglomerates.
Macrobiotics could be considered indigenous, or "caveman" food. In Colorado, it would mean eating whole grains (not the heavily refined "carbs" that has everyone frightened), beans, vegetables, squashes, root vegetables, nuts, fruit (peaches, apples, etc). If you eat meat... deer, buffalo, grouse, trout... and "cattle". As I've said for years: We're the only species that hasn't been weaned. I RARELY do dairy - maybe a little cheese now and then.
Genetic Engineering is used extensively now... Instead of canning, or dehydrating foods of spring, summer and autumn, we buy food that is adulterated, picked too early, waxed, packaged, shipped and stored. Not enough time you say? That's the plan... to keep you harried, inconvenienced, ignorant, and apathetic... so you will need "convenience phood", and become dependent upon them. Soon, your children will not know what the phood you buy is even made of. It's already happening... One care barely recognize what is being served as (packaged) food, such as heavily breaded items. I consider the USDA/FDA to be complicit and corrupt, so you can't get the information you need to make informed decisions to keep you and your kids healthy. Ever see the movie Soylent Green? Most phood is unidentifiable, like heavily processed hot dogs, baloney, and even chips.

We're now afraid of our "damned" food, and water! We buy water in bottles, but don't know where it comes from. By purchasing con-venience phoods we destroy what we need to be, and stay, healthy! Ironic isn't it? Our dependence on the centralized grid, has produced phood that we can't tell where/what/how it's bred, grown, fed, injected, adulterated, butchered, refrigerated, nuked, transported, handled, and shelved for months. Whether it's genetically engineered with pesticides, fish or spider genes, inhumane conditions... Giving us Mad Cow, Chronic Wasting, Whirling, etc... Or are those things bred in a petrie dish somewhere? There's always the new and improved disease coming out of "nowhere", to breed fear and make you beg for the "antidote". Very convenient for those drug manufactueres, wouldn't you say?!

We're made to "believe" that we need government (USDA, FDA, WHO, NIH, CDC...) to keep us safe. Nothing could be further from the truth. WE need to make sure that our food is grown, processed and forwarded to us within a relatively short time, from a local farm/ranch. WE must not become dependent upon phood corporations (Phillip Morris, now Altria, is the largest phood producer - Kraft) for our survival. This is Food Tyranny! Water Tyranny is beginning to be poured over us too... We must take back our farmland... think global, act local!

Most doctors today are primarily drug pushers for antibiotics, vaccinations, flu shots, and a miriad of "color coded" pills! They're in bed with pharmaceutical companies. And, they do not have your best interests uppermost in their mind. Drug corporations "control" doctors, as do insurance agencies - both are very nasty omens for health. They no longer tell us to get off our ass and do something. They don't tell us that our eating habits are killing us. They don't tell us that prescription drugs kill more people than all illegal drugs combined! They don't tell us that we can help ourselves. They don't tell us about their Hippocratic oath: "first do no harm" (that's changed). Is this where the word HYPOCRITE is derived? They won't tell you that your ability to buy unadulterated vitamins and herbs are under attack! They won't tell you that you can heal yourself with food and herbs, among other alternatives! For this would cause great gnashing of teeth and rage, from those who's livelihood depends upon your reliance on "legal drugs" to fix what you, and they, have done to your body.
The FDA, USDA, and drug corporations, are trying to ban herbs and supplements (CODEX), so that you won't be able to heal yourself, and thus be even more dependent on pharma-cons. Hmmm... isn't there a quote in the Bible that says: "Heal thyself" (could be wrong about that - I'm not a "believer"). Sign the petition at Vitamin Cottage (Colorado) to keep alternatives FREE!
I treat myself. A couple of times my hand was snagged by my cat. It was such a tiny puncture (but went well into a vein) that it did not bleed outwardly. The top of my hand filled with blood and began spreading out. I was soon to leave on a short trip. It became infected (a RARITY) - red, black & blue. I'd been taking herbs and it was working, but I forgot to take them with me, and it began to spread again. I used an item that one can find in most stores to draw out the infection through the skin, Epsom Salts.. It really helped! By the time I got home it was coming back. I used another skin treatment to draw out the infection... it was completely gone in two days, even the black & blue. No doctors, no drugs, no injections (tetanus). The 2nd natural "medicine" was an ingredient in pancakes, used as a poultice. Buckwheat! Food as medicine? Old wives tales.
So don't go making any New Year's Resolutions that you know you'll break. Re-Evolution. Begin. Eat well. Get out and enjoy the sunshine, the snow, the rain, the heat, the cold... never mind rigid "programming" and diets... When your pants get tight, cut back on the portions, or the junk. When you find yourself spending too much time on the couch... Get up, get out...

Walk the dog. Visit a neighbor, that you don't really know. Play ball with your kid... walk up a hill, sled down (on plastic bags)... make angels in the snow... notice the beauty of the brownness of winter without snow... go to bed early... get up late, or early... fix a wonderfully huge breakfast and skip lunch... or fast for a day... rollerblade with your child down the middle of your street - reclaim your neighborhood (if people knew that kids would be playing in the streets, like we used to, they would automatically be more careful!)! Watch the birds and squirrels, or the golden eagle that perches in the trees above... look up... smell the flowers around your knees, eat dandilions (powerful blood purifier), lay in the grass and see how many types of bugs you can see, or faces in the clouds... enjoy a great bottle of wine... play frisbee with your dog, or your wife... make love... PROTEST WAR... Go fly a kite... Heal Thyself!
